Instruction

Student instruction is differentiated and specifically designed based on their IEP.  As a school leader, I provide professional development and actionable feedback to my teachers and paraprofessionals to enhance their best practices and to ensure students are receiving rigorous, thought-provoking, and engaging instruction.
  • Created differentiated Instructional Focus Calendar based on SANDI/FAST and NYSAA to guide teachers on topics for each content area (including Activities of Daily Living, Vocational and Social-Emotional Learning)
  • Assign, offer and lead Professional Development on topics such as assessment, progress monitoring, teacher best practices, individual curriculum, rubrics, grading, providing meaningful feedback, Knowing Our Students Well, rich discussion, core vocabulary, social-emotional learning, mindfulness, and workstations
  • Work in collaboration with the coaches and Unit Coordinators to create a Professional Development Calendar for each off-site
  • Set-up and create schedules for teacher Inter-class and inter-school visitation for our teachers to see highly effective teachers in action (TEACCH Rounds, Essentials for Living)
  • The curriculum promotes our school vision, mission, and core beliefs (everyone can learn, and our curriculum entails collaboration, critical thinking, communication, and creativity)
  • Student academic success is reflected directly linked to my leadership and I take responsibility for each students' learning
  • Technology is vital in instruction and learning.  As a leader, I have written grants and received RESO A funds for a remolded Home Economics Room, A state-of-the-art Culinary Kitchen, Computers for Learning, and STEM Carts

Assessment

Assessment is necessary to see where a student lies on the continum of academic and social emotional learning.  As the Alternate Population Test Coordinator, I ensure all teachers receive appropriate training and can assess the students with fidelity.  This gives a clearer picture of where the student is and where they need to be.
  • Created and shared Scoring, Grading and Task rubrics
  • Created and shared Entry and Exit Tickets
  • Provide teacher training for SANDI/FAST and NYSAA
  • Created and shared Progress Monitoring Sheets for data collection on student IEP goals
  • Review and provide actionable feedback on teacher-made assessments
  • Monitor data collection of teachers and paraprofessionals
  • Monitor FBA/BIP meetings
  • Monitor IEP meetings
  • Ensure Vocational One Assessments/Interviews are completed
